Snow White - Why is everybody talking about Disney's new Snow White movie?

We all remember the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. That classic 1937 animation introduced us to Disney's first princess, her evil queen stepmother, and those lovable seven companions. But while the animated Snow White has charmed audiences for nearly a century, it's time for a new generation to experience the magic - this time, with a bold live-action reimagining, available at OMNIPLEX from March 21st!

That's exactly what Disney's Snow White promises when it lands in theaters on 21 March 2025. Directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man) with a screenplay by Greta Gerwig (Barbie) and *Erin Cressida Wilson, this is not just a retelling but a fresh perspective on the timeless fairy tale. Featuring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) as Snow White, Andrew Burnap in a new mystery role, and Gal Gadot stepping into the shoes of the Evil Queen, the film brings a powerhouse cast to the screen.

Plot of Snow White - Is it true to the original Snow White?

Just like in the original, Snow White escapes to the forest, where she is taken in by a group of seven miners with distinct personalities (Grumpy, Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Bashful, Dopey, and Doc). However, the new film may give these characters a fresh take, reflecting its updated approach to the story. Meanwhile, the Queen, enraged by Snow White's survival and her mirror's constant reminders, disguises herself as a hag, bakes up a poisonous apple, and heads into the woods for a deadly encounter with our heroine.

While these plot points closely mirror the 1937 classic, the new Snow White isn't afraid to dig deeper into its characters and themes. With a screenplay from Greta Gerwig (Barbie) and *Erin Cressida Wilson, the film promises to bring more depth to Snow White's journey, focusing on her inner strength, courage, and leadership in a way that resonates with today's audiences. The Evil Queen, too, might receive a more nuanced backstory, making her motivations even more chilling.

So, while this live-action adaptation stays loyal to the framework of the original tale, it also takes creative liberties to ensure it feels fresh, relevant, and empowering for a new generation. Snow White strikes a balance between honouring its roots and reimagining the story, making it a must-watch when it arrives at OMNIPLEX on 21 March 2025.

Cast of Snow White 2025 - Who is playing Snow White?

You've seen Rachel Zegler shine in West Side Story, bring charm to Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and step into the dystopian world of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. But long before she became a Hollywood star, the 23-year-old had dreams of becoming a Disney princess. Childhood photos of Zegler dressed as Snow White have surfaced on social media, making it clear this role is a lifelong dream. "Never in a million years," she told Variety, "did I imagine this would be a possibility for me."

Joining Zegler in the cast of Snow White is Andrew Burnap, playing Snow White's new love interest, Jonathan, while Ansu Kabia takes on the role of the Huntsman and Patrick Page lends his voice to the ominous Magic Mirror. As for Snow White's iconic forest companions, the seven housemates include Martin Klebba (Pirates of the Caribbean) as Grumpy, leading the group of gem-mining misfits.

With such a talented ensemble, the 2025 live-action Snow White is shaping up to be a magical adventure worthy of Disney's first princess, catch it in OMNIPLEX this spring!

Gal Gadot in Snow White - What do we know about the Evil Queen?

As the star of DC's Wonder Woman franchise, you might assume Gal Gadot had left auditions behind. However, for her role as the Evil Queen in Disney's live-action Snow White, the Israeli actress had to prove her vocal chops. "They needed to make sure I could sing, because this is a musical," Gadot revealed to GQ. "It had been a while since I auditioned for anything. I spent a month preparing the song, then filmed the audition. When I got the part, it was incredibly exciting."

In her first villainous role, Gadot fully embraced the dark allure of the Evil Queen, complete with dazzling gemstones, razor-sharp cheekbones, and dramatic cloaks. "It was delicious and delightful to play a villain," she shared. But her children had their own reaction to her casting. "When I told my daughters I'd be filming Snow White for a month, they assumed I was playing Snow White," Gadot told People. "When I explained I'd be the Evil Queen, my oldest just said, 'Oh, how appropriate...'"

From heroic Amazon to fairytale villain, Gadot's transformation promises to be as mesmerizing as it is menacing available on the big screen at OMNIPLEX from March 21st.

Why is the new Snow White movie live action and not animated?

Disney is bringing Snow White to life in a live-action remake, following in the footsteps of previous revamps like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. But why go live-action for such an iconic tale? After all, the original 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs wasn't just Disney's first animated feature-it was a groundbreaking moment in cinema history and remains a cornerstone of the company's legacy.

Perhaps that legacy explains why Disney waited so long to reimagine Snow White. The original is the quintessential Disney Princess story, and its influence on animation-and Disney's future productions-can't be overstated. Attempting to live up to such a legendary film is no small challenge. That said, turning it into a live-action musical offers new creative opportunities to make the classic story resonate with today's audiences.

This live-action format gives the filmmakers the ability to delve deeper into the characters, bring stunning realism to the magical world, and showcase modern storytelling sensibilities. At the same time, it allows for updates that address cultural changes and evolving audience expectations, something an animated remake might struggle to achieve while staying visually tied to the original.

Of course, like every adaptation of a beloved classic, the new Snow White has sparked both excitement and controversy. But Disney seems determined to balance honoring the 1937 masterpiece with reimagining it in ways that feel fresh, relevant, and worthy of today's big screens.

Snow White soundtrack - What songs will feature in the new Snow White movie?

It's hard to imagine a Snow White remake without classics like "Heigh-Ho" and "Whistle While You Work"-and don't worry, director Marc Webb isn't skipping them. Early footage confirms both fan favourites will be featured. But what's even more exciting is the brand-new songbook crafted by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind hits from The Greatest Showman and Disney's live-action Aladdin.

For a sneak peek, check out the end of the Snow White trailer, where Rachel Zegler debuts Disney's latest showstopper, a heartfelt 'want song' titled "Waiting On A Wish". It's a magical first taste of the fresh melodies coming our way.
